SOCIAL SECURITY CRITICISED FOR OVERSPEND
Social Security's excuses for spending over 9 million on a computer project
don't stand up.
That's the message from Guernsey's Public Accounts committee.
Leon Gallienne's been condemning SSD for overspending on a project, moving
information on benefit payments to a modern server based system.
A report compiled by Price Waterhouse Coopers claims the project went over
three million pounds beyond their budget, but social securities accounts show
they were almost meeting targets.
The discrepancy has lead politicians to call for states departments to update
their accounting standards and the introduction of new controls on Social
Security's spending.
Also in today's meeting politicians have been praising the Scrutiny Committee
This morning the committee presented its 'Strengthening Accountability
Performance Report'.
Deputy Peter Roffey commended the report.
He told the house one of the crowning achievements of the Scrutiny Committee
was giving States departments more power over their own budgets
So Ok who's head will roll?
