Cash-strapped HSSD spends thousands on signs

NEW signs have been put up around the Princess Elizabeth Hospital at a cost of tens of thousands of pounds.
But Health and Social Services, which has cut services to stay within its budget, has rejected criticism of the expense.
‘The signs are for the new clinical block,’ said the spokesman.
The department refused to say how much the signs had cost, but it is believed it was £65,000.
The spokesman said the money for them was approved by the States more than three years ago.
‘Billet d’Etat XVII for the States meeting of Wednesday 25 October 2006 gave details of various elements associated with the development of the proposed new clinical block,’ he said.
‘At that meeting, the States approved that package and the funding for it, which included the new signs.’
The issue was brought up by a member of HSSD staff following cuts in the childcare subsidy and axing of freshly-cooked meals for night staff. (from thisisguernsey)
