Petrol smashes through £1 barrier

The price of unleaded petrol has broken the £1 a litre barrier for the first time in Guernsey.

Motorists filling up at the Trinity Square garage in St Peter Port have to pay £1.02 for a litre of unleaded.

The scrapping of road tax in favour of a tax on fuel added 29 pence to a litre of diesel and 14 pence to petrol at the beginning of the year.

Since then the cost of both petrol and diesel at the pumps has increased as the world price of oil rises.

The garage manager said he could not rule out further price rises in future. (from BBCnews)

I hope the rumour I heard yesterday is BS.

i have heard that rumour as well.by the way petrol last week at trevs was about 86p a litre

I wonder if our states will tell us what the annual income from the 14p a litre Petrol (road tax) is now compared with the old road tax if its more than 10% above the old road tax they should reduce it next year to help with rising fuel prices.
