Passenger makes racket over extra bag charge
A STUDENT has been charged £90 to bring his tennis rackets to Guernsey.
Nicola Zarini, originally from San Remo, Italy, travelled from Nice to Gatwick with easyJet with two items of hold baggage. One of the bags contained three tennis rackets. It wasn’t until he checked in at Gatwick with Flybe that he was told his bags were over the limit and that he would be charged £117 to get them onto the plane.
‘I had paid for two outbound bags when I booked my flight,’ said Mr Zarini, 23. ‘First they asked me to pay £117, then they said £90. They told me I had too much weight but I said that I had paid for two bags of 20kg each. It weighed around 34kg altogether, so I don’t understand why I had to pay again.’
A spokesman for Flybe said its baggage policy was clearly stated on its website. ‘Nicola Zarini prepaid online to check in one item of hold baggage. At check-in the passenger presented two items of hold baggage, which together weighed in excess of his total baggage allowance,’ he said. ‘As a result he was charged the normal airport rate for checking in the additional bag, £7.99, plus excess baggage charges.’ (from thisisguernsey)
Seems like a "Rip Off" to me...

The One and Only....
Re: Passenger makes racket over extra bag charge
I also assumed that when you pay £6 per case you were actually paying for extra weight.... WRONG
You are actually paying the £6 to take less luggage because your allowance of 20kg remains the same so if your 2nd case weights 6kg thats 6kg less luggage you can have in the first case ITS STUPID
A couple of weeks ago was the last Flybe Flight I will take if there is an alternative regardless of the price.
I checked in after a flight from the USA this morning 9.10am I had booked 3 cases NICK was the guy who checked us in he was yawning and not really awake, I asked if the Flight was on time "yes", thats good he weighed my first case then the second, I noticed the wheels of the first case were still on the belt while he weighed the 2nd, he got a heavy tag 23kg and sent the 2 cases off.
I said NICK that case did not weigh 23kg (I had weighed them before leaving the USA. "Yes it did you are going to be over weight" he said.
I asked for him to get the case back CANT DO THAT, can they weigh it again NO, I asked to see a manager. NICK Ignored me and said I know how to weigh a case i have done thousands of them, I said "I don't give a sh!t how many cases you've weighed this time you did it wrong, Can I See a Manager" NICK said "don't swear at me" I said i don't call Sh!t swearing at you he said "right your not flying and any more I will call the police" I said get a Manage and call who ever you like.
a few Min's later a Manager appeared I said the the case was not the weight he said etc and asked if I paid extra would it be credited if when we got to guernsey Flybe reweighed the case and it was lighter than he said, No cant do that.
So in good old Airport fashion I took everything out of the last case and sent it empty and took the contents as hand luggage in a clear bag.
20 Min's before departure the FLIGHT IS CANCELLED
So back through immigration, collect the cases back to Flybe ticket desk and re-booked for the later flight.
I was then looking for NICK the Sh1t could not find him which was a shame as I wanted to get him to weigh in the cases again.
Put the 23kg case on the Scales 19.6kg, theres a surprise, anyway the lady checked us in and let me put everything back in the last case which probably made us 2-3 kg over but she let us off for our trouble.
Got Home 5 hours late and knackered if you ever go to check in and see NICK, wait for someone else.
I Think its time an anti-flybe campaign is started and we all support Aurigny
