Lawyer to campaign against move to CET
A FORMER States Member is to spearhead a campaign against moving to Central European Time.
Advocate Chris Lakeman (pictured) hopes to muster the many Islanders who he believes would oppose the move.
The issue is to be the subject of the first referendum held in Jersey in recent times. States Members last week backed a proposal to hold the Islandwide vote on 15 October – the same day as the Senatorial and Constables elections.
Islanders will be asked to answer yes or no to the question: ‘Do you think that Jersey should adopt Central European Time?’ The result of the referendum will not, however, decide the issue; it will be up to States Members to make a final ruling – and they will not be bound by the result of the vote.
