Calls for pedestrian crossing at Salerie

PEDESTRIANS need somewhere to cross at Salerie Corner, according to one nearby restaurant owner.
Babis Kalamis, owner of The Rowan Tree on Glategny Esplanade, said customers, many of whom had young families, said it was impossible to cross the busy main road.
‘Every day there is a near miss. It’s only a matter of time before something happens,’ said Mr Kalamis.
Environment Minister Peter Sirett announced at a meeting held by road safety group Living Streets that there was a plan to put an ‘island’ in the middle of the road near the restaurant.
Mr Kalamis (pictured) said a compulsory pedestrian crossing could also work as a deterrent for speeding motorists.
‘You see a stream of people coming out from Salerie Corner car park in the mornings and, unless a car wants to stop, you can be waiting there for some time before you get across. There is a major car park on this main road and you have to give pedestrians the means to cross.
‘It has to be a compulsory crossing. The cars have to stop,’ said Mr Kalamis (from thisisguernsey)
Trouble is its not the only problem area, Halfway, Longstore, Red Lion, where do you start?

Being synical a ped' crossing in this area would certainly help the restaurant. How dangerous would it be for pedestrian to cross on a ped' crossing considering it is a fast section of road.

Don't let living streets (Steps) have anything to do with this , i for one have had enough of people putting things to stop traffic whenever they can . So the guy wants a crossing to his restaurant like someone at cobo wanted (and got) when will it end every shop , cafe , bar , house will be asking for a crossing .

The one at Cobo happened when Dave Nussbaumer was a deputy. He served for one term then bailed out. Not that the crossing was the only reason for entering the States of course...............

Re: Calls for pedestrian crossing at Salerie
of course not, I can think of 2 other reasons BUMP BUMP
I suppose it makes sense to have a crossing near there and in the busy mornings it would not really hold up the traffic as they will soon catch up as its nunning slow anyway, It may slow down the traffic leaving in the afternoon though.
