Alderney Toddler and baby group faces closure

Post by GD on Fri 25 Jan 2013, 5:58 pm

The only baby and toddler group running in Alderney is facing closure.

Toddler Time needs to find 2,500 by May.

The group runs twice a week at the island's Butes Centre and parents say it's a lifeline - giving them the space to get together with other parents and children.

There is also a health visitor that visits once a week for them to get help and advice from.

But the recession has seen funds dwindle and money for rent, insurance and equipment has all but dried up.

Committee member Becca Bohan said the expenses had risen over the last few years.

She said: "We need the money for things like rent of the centre, insurance and equipment. Its at a critical point.

"We have to raise the money by May so we can stay open for another year. Unless we find the money the group will have to close."

Parents are now fundraising to keep it open.

Cleo Thomas said: "We've got a raffle, a jumble sale and we are asking local visitors to get involved."

Anyone who wishes to donate towards the cost of running the sessions can deposit a cheque payable to Toddler Time at PO Box 1018.
