Post by GD on Tue 08 May 2012, 4:31 pm

The body includes the Chief Minister Peter Harwood, and 10 department ministers, one of whom also serves as Deputy Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister made a nomination for each ministerial post, but other candidates stood against his nominees in nearly all cases.

Deputies also agreed to publish the way they voted for each post after the meeting.

New deputy Gavin St Pier was elected Guernsey's new Treasury and Resources Minister.

The St Sampson's deputy was the Chief Minister's nominee for the post, and was voted in uncontested.

Two members have stood against the Chief Minister's nominee for Social Security Minister Allister Langlois.

Deputy Mark Dorey, who held the role for the last 4 years and Deputy Mary Lowe both bid for the post.

The new Commerce and Employment Minister is Deputy Kevin Stewart.

He beat Deputy Al Brouard and Deputy Roger Perrot, the Chief Minister's nominee.

With no other contenders, Deputy Robert Sillars retains his role as Education Minister.

Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq was also uncontested as the new Home Department Minister.

Deputy Hunter Adam will carry on in his previous role as Health & Social Services Minister.

New Deputy Paul Luxon also joins the Policy Council as Public Services Minister, beating Deputy Jan Kuttlewascher to the post.

Guernsey's new Environment Minister is Roger Domaille.

The Chief Minister's candidate, beat off comeptition from Deputy Barry Brehaut and Deputy David De Lisle to the post.

There was only one vote between Deputies Domaille and Brehaut.

Deputy Dave Jones has held onto his job as Housing Minister.

Deputy Brehaut and Deputy John Gollop both stood against him.

Deputy Mike O'Hara has also retained his role as Culture & Leisure Minister, he was uncontested.

Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq, the new Home Minister, has been voted in as Deputy Chief Minister, beating Deputy Allister Langlois, who was the Chief Minister's candidate.

he isn't the right man for the job as has been proven in his last 4 years..just because he is an ex gynecologist doesn't make him a good minister of hssd.

I agree with Thistle - (mind you, Thistle is the only person I know who understands a word he is saying lol! ) she deals with him a lot so if anyone knows his capabilities and understanding of situations - it would be her!!!!

You still have not given a reason for him being unsuitable. What has he not done, or done he should not have ?

kingcole you need to live here to understand why this man should not be minister of hssd. he has let some of the most vulnerable people in guernsey down by not going ahead with a new adult respite servive.there is no aftercare for people with alcohol probs, mental health probs etc etc.he is making certain operations ie varicose vein treatment only available if you can afford to pay for them..he is unsympathetic to the needs of islanders

I asked the question because, as you say I don't live there. Now you have provided your reasons. Fine, but seeing as how he was re-elected to the job, your's seems a minority view.

Not necessarily so - the people of Guernsey vote for who they want to represent them and the States Members/Chief Minister do the 'job finding'....last term Hunter Adams' department overspent so much it was eyewatering and when questioned his defence was that he did not know that the hospital were employing so many temps at OTT hourly rates to fill positions.....which does not give the people of Guernsey great confidence in his understanding of a 'housekeeping budget'!!!!

Then why was he re-elected un-opposed ? Are the rest of them afraid to take it on ?

Anyway two non deputies are required for the CM's new commitee to look at the workings of the States, maybe Thistle and Kat should get down there and apply.

This looks to me like the first maneuveuring to create a new post for a certain well travelled ex-CM.
