Alderney population declining steadily

Post by GD on Thu 12 Apr 2012, 10:44 pm

Alderney's population has declined steadily over the past four years, according to data from Guernsey's Social Security Department.

Figures from March 2011 showed 2,111 people lived in the island, a drop of nearly 200 compared with March 2007.

The number of people in full-time employment dropped by a similar level in the same period - from 939 to 867.

The figures from Social Security have been used to measure population since the last census in the island in 2001.

A rolling electronic database, which was chosen to replace future censuses, is not due to go live until 2014.
