I am 34 years old and have a background in finance. I have spent much time in Guernsey over the years and have lived here permanently for nearly five years. Guernsey is now my home and accordingly, I have a vested interest in its future. I am known for my pragmatic approach to issues and grounded thinking. I would truly relish the opportunity to be elected as your Deputy.

There is so much which is good about Guernsey but with so many significant changes taking place for example the airport and harbour, we must be diligent in agreeing the rationale for what to do, when and how we pay for it. We should be running Guernsey more like a business and ensuring we stick to achievable budgets.

A vote for me is a vote for an individual who listens to and understands your problems, does what he says and is not afraid of challenging the status quo for a better parish and a better working island.

Transport - Guernsey needs a credible, workable transport strategy. We are all affected every day with roadworks, queuing traffic, parking difficulties and poor public transport. Residents parking is a major issue in our Parish and one of which I have first hand knowledge. The Environment Department needs to be pragmatic and creative in seeking solutions.

Parking in town is also a problem with both limited space and congestion. I do not favour full paid parking but something needs to be done to encourage car sharing and ease the flow of traffic. Small and electric cars make perfect sense in Guernsey given the short distances

Education Guernsey has an advantage over other jurisdictions in terms of class size and the inherent sense of community. There has been much criticism levelled at the Education Department of late. I was not educated in Guernsey but I have spoken to many of you who were and who felt fortunate to enjoy the quality of education and facilities available. 87% of pupils study to A Level and 1 in 4 go to University so the system is working; in any organisation there are weaknesses and these need to be addressed. The Mulkerrin report appears to have raised many more questions than it answers.

Privatisation Though I firmly believe in private enterprise I do not believe privatisation is the most appropriate direction for utilities as it is irreversible. Commercialisation, however, is another matter. If the argument for selling the utility is that the private sector is more efficient and competent then I suggest the States follow the example of the private sector. The States should run their organisations in a proper fashion rather than languishing with a blend of complacency and institutionalism which appears all so often to be the case.

Energy As an Island we must investigate the use of alternative methods of sustainable energy generation such as solar, wind and tidal power. Any initiative must be sympathetic to the beautiful Island in which we live. We need to draw upon the expertise of those possibly outside of the Bailiwick to assess which options are best for our needs.

87% of Guernsey students study to A-Level? Who has been telling this newcomer such blatant fibs? How did he swallow such patent nonsense?
