Mayor for St Peter Port?

Post by GD on Thu 15 Mar 2012, 5:18 pm

There are calls for St Peter Port to have a mayor.

The role does not even exist at the moment, but residents and officials have complained there is no one with real power to make decisions about the Town's future.

It comes as politicians prepare for a full review of island's overall system of government.

St Peter Port's senior constable is one of those calling for changes in how Town is run.

Senior Constable, Barry Cash said: "It would be good to have more power to do what needs to be done, at the moment we can only put suggestions forward to the States departments and then of course it goes to their board and their board will make the ultimate decision.
"They make their decision on the knowledge that they know, not the knowledge that we know that we need to do. And that is the big problem."
