Extra money given for Jersey holiday adverts

Post by GD on Mon 19 Dec 2011, 7:21 pm

Jersey's government is paying an extra 70,000 for adverts that promote holidays to the island.

The economic development minister said the money would support the tourism industry which was facing tough times.

A report for the States said there were major events in the UK next year such as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics.

It said these events were pushing up the cost of holiday advertising in the key spring and summer months.

The report's authors argued there was an opportunity for a burst of TV advertising between Christmas and New Year which is a time when people are thinking about booking their summer holiday.

The minister, Senator Alan Maclean, has agreed to extra funding to support the industry in difficult times
