Plane Crashes on way to Alderney...

Post by GD on Sat 12 Nov 2011, 7:03 pm

The single-engine plane was based on the island of Alderney and had been flying there from the south coast of the UK when it crashed at around 3.30pm on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the French coastguard said the two Britons are a married couple.

She added the woman, thought to be in her seventies, was found alive in the water but her husband is still missing. She said the woman was in shock but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

According to the French coastguard the woman told her rescuers her husband was the pilot and was still inside the aircraft when it sank.

The alarm was raised by the cargo ship Jorke Rider who called the French coastguard at around 3.40pm. The ship then rescued the woman from the water around 20 minutes later.

She was taken on board the Rotterdam-bound ship and then airlifted by helicopter to the Pasteur Hospital in Cherbourg.

A Royal Navy vessel, HMS Tyne, are assisting French coastguard helicopters and lifeboats from the Channel Islands to search for the four-seater aircraft.

I agree - but she also has to recover from the loss of her husband! Cannot imagine how awful it must have been for her knowing he was sinking with the plane - my thoughts go out to her.
