Trio stand for President

Alderney's Presidential by-election will be contested by three men.

Paul Arditti, Bill Simpson and Stuart Trought are vying for the role, which is being vacated by Sir Norman Browse.

Lawyer Mr Arditti is a current States member and would have to give up that position if he is successful. Writer Mr Simpson spent 25 years in the RAF before working in commercial business. Retired mariner Stuart Trought used to run a charger angling business and is the former chief executive officer of Alderney Renewable Energy.

Sir Norman, who was elected in 2002, said it had been a privilege to serve Alderney.

"The last nine years have flown by. I have enjoyed being at the centre of the island's government. It has been a privilege to know what is going on, to experience the difficulties States members have to meet and resolve, and appreciate their hard work."

The States President poll will be held on Saturday June 11. (from Alderney Journal)
