Homebuy scheme questioned

Post by GD on Tue 11 Jan 2011, 10:16 pm

A COUPLE with 155,000 in the bank were allowed to buy a discounted States house under a scheme to get low income first-time buyers onto the property ladder, an inquiry heard yesterday.

It was also revealed that others had savings of as much as 115,000 and were able to put down substantial deposits for the homes on the La Providence estate, at Goose Green.

Details of the cases were made public yesterday as the Public Accounts Committee, the States in-house spending watchdog, questioned senior civil servants about the Homebuy scheme.(from JEP)
Sounds like someone has a lot of explaining to do...

If you had that much saving and lived in a Guernsey states house you would be out onto the streets.
