Seasonal vomiting bug warning issued

Post by GD on Thu 16 Dec 2010, 8:50 pm

ISLANDERS are being warned to help protect against the norovirus vomiting bug following a slight rise in cases of the virus.
At least eight cases have been diagnosed during the last two weeks – including five at the Hospital in the last three days.
Health officials are now urging Islanders to take steps to reduce the chance of catching the bug, which causes sickness and diarrhoea.
Consultant microbiologist Dr Ivan Muscat said: ‘Although this is not an outbreak, it is important we make people aware of this seasonal virus.’
To help reduce the risk of an outbreak, people with symptoms of norovirus will only be admitted to hospital if they need urgent treatment. People with symptoms of the bug are also being urged not to visit the Hospital.(from jep)
