Bathtub Race back this Christmas

Post by GD on Wed 15 Dec 2010, 1:39 pm

Forget a relaxing warm bath this Christmas - Guernsey's Sailing Trust is looking for people to jump into a bathtub in St Peter Port harbour instead.

The annual bathtub race was brought back a couple of years ago after it died out in the late eighties.

Many islanders have already started working on their bathtubs, but the organisers say it doesn't take long to pull one together and are encouraging more people to take part.

Organiser Adam Reed explained what's needed, "There's three different classes - there's the purist class which is one bathtub and it's sail powered, then there's the paddlers class which can be as few or as many bathtubs as you like, and obviously as the name suggests it's paddling, and then there's the open class which is as few or as many bathtubs as you like which are all sail-powered."

The event starts at 11am on Tuesday 28th December, and will raise money for the Guernsey Sailing Trust, the RNLI and Channel Island Air Search (from CTV)
