Suspect package closes large part of St Helier

Large parts of the town centre have been evacuated

A large part of St Helier town centre in Jersey has been cordoned off by police.
States of Jersey Police were called at 0916 GMT about a suspicious package delivered to a property in Charing Cross.
Police decided to evacuate homes and some businesses in the area.
The force said it was waiting for bomb disposal officers from Guernsey to deal with the incident and the area would be closed for some time.
Witnesses have said Mothercare, Co-operative, Marks and Spencer and WH Smith have all been evacuated.
Insp Sara Garwood, of States of Jersey Police, said: "It could be some time before we are able to resolve this because we are waiting for specialist officers from Guernsey to resolve this.
"We need bomb disposal officers to come over and help us because our local one isn't here and we use them as a precautionary measure whenever there is a suspect package."
Police have asked people to stay away from the area (from BBC)
