Currys launch new online office and stationery retailer

Post by GD on Wed 17 Nov 2010, 12:01 pm

new online office and stationery retailer has been launched by local office suppliers Currys to market its range of products to UK homes and consumers.

DeskGoTech currently lists over 1,500 of the most popular items offered by name brand suppliers such as Niceday and Office Depot, although it’s envisaged that it will eventually stock up to 60,000 different products.

The site, which has been designed and developed by The Idea Works, will initially focus on the B2C market and will take advantage of Jersey’s position outside the EU VAT zone to offer goods and services with a value of less than £18 which are exempt from VAT.

It also boasts a host of special offers, all of which are less than half price, with discounts of up to 90 per cent available on some items. These offers will change on a month-by-month basis as DeskGoTech continues to expand the product range, enabling customers to stock up on their stationery supplies at a hugely reduced cost.

The Idea Works has partnered with e-commerce systems specialist Evolution and local operator Professional Fulfilment Services to provide the technical infrastructure to manage the orders, inventory and supply processing for the new online store. The agency has also been in talks with renowned illustrator Simon Oxley, who designed the iconic Twitter logo, to develop a range of fun characters which will be used to promote the new site through a number of marketing initiatives.

Anne Innes, the managing director of Currys, said there was currently a gap in the market for stationery and office supply businesses to sell direct to the consumer, but that it was important they had the support of global suppliers like Office Depot who had traditionally focused primarily on the business-to-business market.

“We currently stock over 1,500 products. These range from pens, pencils, cartridges and ink to staplers, notepads and binders for the home office, school or leisure activities, such as arts and crafts, but we have the capacity to significantly increase this range and our eventual aim is to offer all the products, solutions, information and tools that small businesses need,” she said.
