Spending cuts must not be rushed, urges minister

Post by GD on Mon 08 Nov 2010, 6:31 pm

MINISTERS should vet each otherís proposals ahead of the next round of spending cuts, the Home Affairs Minister says.
Senator Ian Le Marquand believes that such Scrutiny would stop proposals being rushed through and then withdrawn. He added that it would also enable the Council of Ministers to present a united front when it comes to proposed spending cuts in 2012 and 2013.
His comments come after the JEP reported that at least four ministers were against the current plans by the Education Minister to slash the subsidies of fee-paying schools. (from JEP)
