PLANS to build a road along the old Victorian promenade at Havre des Pas have been ‘sneakily pushed through’ by the Transport department, according to the head of an environmental lobbying group.
Save Our Shoreline co-ordinator David Cabeldu has said that many residents and people who run businesses on the promenade were not aware of the plans to create a new road from Green Street slipway to La Collette.
The road, which is expected to cost £300,000 and six months of disruption, will give the emergency services a direct route to the new incinerator and fuel farm in the event of a fire.
While Mr Cabeldu accepts that a gateway for the emergency services is necessary, he has questioned the way that the Transport department has handled the scheme. (from BBC)
