Priaulx on pole

Post by GD on Sat 30 Oct 2010, 10:23 am

Andy Priaulx has claimed his first pole position of the 2010 FIA World Touring Car Championship season in Japan. He set his fastest time on only his first flying lap in the top-ten shoot out.

After the session a delighted Priaulx said: 'This has come at the best possible time for the championship, as this weekend could decide the outcome of the title, and being on pole is what we needed to stay in with a chance of winning it.'

The races are being held on the 3.703 kilometre Okayama International Circuit, where the championship has visited twice before, and is one Priaulx. 'It is an interesting track to drive on and it certainly is good for our cars. On top of that the tyres hold up pretty well with very little degradation.'

The warm-up on Sunday is at 09.30 for 15 minutes and then the two 14-lap races are at 14.35 and 16.05. Japan is eight hours ahead of GMT

Drivers' World Championship Points after Round 18: 1 - Yvan Muller 265; 2 - Andy Priaulx 240; 3 - Gabriele Tarquini 236; 4 - Rob Huff 196. (from CTV)
