Are you washing and squashing?

Post by GD on Sat 19 Dec 2009, 3:54 pm

A new campaign could see more drink cartons being recycled in Guernsey.

Public Services has teamed up with Guernsey Dairy to drive home the Wash and Squash campaign.

Advertising on milk cartons will encourage islanders to recycle all carboard drink containers.

The scheme has been running for more than a year and has been rated as a great success so far. But Public Services say there's still more to be done.

Meanwhile extra recycling bins are being put out to cope with the seasonal upsurge in rubbish. And for the first time there will be bins for getting rid of polystyrene at Longue Hougue, Safeway and Chouet.

Once I've washed and squashed I put them into a carrier bag (the a la posh ones that cost 10p) then when that is full up I take them to recycle - don't get any wild life clammering to get them

My old granny used to wash but not squash because glass was fragile. The plans for Guernsey Dairy included a bottling plant many years ago but they couldn't afford the plant.(Not a lot of people know that)!
