Pasty chain to open in Le Pollet

Post by GD on Tue 16 Jun 2009, 7:38 pm

BAKERY cafe chain Pasty Presto is coming to Guernsey.

Sandpiper CI will manage the brand in the Channel Islands. Chief executive Tony O’Neill said last month that a ‘well-known product offering’ would be taking over the former Poundworld shop at 7, Le Pollet.

Pasty Presto will open in August and employ six staff, with the intention of more stores being opened in Guernsey and Jersey when other locations are acquired.

Its cafe will offer a wide range of food and drink, including its famous Cornish pasties and where possible use organic, free range and Fairtrade ingredients.

Mr O’Neill said Sandpiper was delighted to have signed an agreement with Pasty Presto.

‘This is a high quality operation and all products will be sourced from its traditional Cornish base.

‘For the first time, residents will be able to enjoy a range of authentic quality pastry and pasty products.

‘The opening of this shop also reflects Sandpiper’s determination to play our part in ensuring St Peter Port remains the jewel in Guernsey’s retail crown.’

Pasty Presto founder Steve Grocutt said the firm was delighted to be working with Sandpiper because of its in-depth knowledge of the local marketplace.

‘We have been looking at this market for some time and are very pleased we’re opening our first store in the Channel Islands.’ (from thisisguernsey)

Be nice to able to get a decent pasty in the Island...

Fabulous news, not only a pasty shop but also a costa (lot) coffee as well, my goodness aren't we lucky to have such esteemed retailers willing to grace our beautiful town with their presence. At least it will mean that all of those people who struggle to find something to eat or drink in the existing dozen or so outlets should have a better chance of satisfaction.

Would anyone else be interested in signing a petition to further improve the choice of food in the Pollet by encouraging even more UK chains to set up shop? I can just see it now, Number 19 replaced by Subway, Paint's the Jeweller becomes a Greggs, Milletts turns into Starbucks, and as the crowning glory Boots will be turned into a fast food mall, incorporating McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut etc.

Who could possibly argue that such action wouldn't attract tourists to the island?

I think I agree that it  would be nice to have more shops in town rather than food outlets.  I like to go to town to bargain hunt and to buy clothes etc...can't do it here.  I do love costa though and would be nice to see one in town.....thistle.....we will go there lol!!

Are you serious in wanting more UK chain stores to come here to Guernsey?

There are really quite enough places to eat in St Peter Port all that will happen is the existing outlets will all loose a bit of business, which they probably need as times are difficult anyway.

yes I am - I feel we need them.  I would hate town to become all food/drink shops.   I am sure others would agree
