Royal Court Security Measures Increased

ROYAL COURT SECURITY MEASURES INCREASED

Security measures at Guernsey's Royal Court are being stepped upů. From the middle of next month, anyone going to the court will have to pass through archway metal detectors. Officials have carried out an extensive review of security measures at the court They've also decided to introduce extra security staff in and around courtrooms. The Bailiff is stressing the costs involved in employing more security staff are not being met by the taxpayer. They'll be covered by increases in court fees.

The obvious question is why? Is there a security problem at the Courts now to justify this? This has not been raised publicly as an issue, that I am aware of anyway. Where next, Frossard House?

when they built the new courts they had the security arches but noone to use them,

I suppose fines will go up 25% to cover the cost of the security.

I dont see why the Royal Court is more at risk than the other court rooms.

For once i don't think it has anything to do with two thumbs (i know is this really digger saying this LOL) i think we will know the true reason , it could be that some big cases are coming up or perhaps things have gone missing again , but they will come up with some obscure reason why all of a sudden they need protection.

The court building was yet another complete waste of OUR money! Resembles a pit-head winding house. Nice granite work, but what an eyesore - and they never preserved any of the original prison architecture, as promised. As for tax payers not paying for the security measures, that's balls! Users of the courts are mostly taxpayers! It's just another non-job creation programme in hard financial times. I wonder if any States members still have interests in security companies?
