Grant cheques sent in error

Post by Pegasus on Fri 14 Mar 2008, 8:54 am

Thousands of pounds’ worth of student grant cheques have mistakenly been sent directly to their parents’ homes instead of to their universities.

Treasury and Resources, which deals with the grants on behalf of Education, has this week been desperately recalling the 648 cheques and urging students not to cash them.

The grant cheques are issued by the States towards university students’ accommodation and living costs.

But as a result of ‘human error’ they were all sent to parents’ Jersey addresses last weekend.

Stuart Lusby, head of shared services at Treasury and Resources, said that his department dealt with all States processing. ‘The error here is ours, not Education’s,’ he said. Another States blunder but there again its not unusual
