Man seeks compensation from JEC after 2 fires

Post by GD on Tue 02 Mar 2010, 8:16 pm

A man who's had 2 electrical fires in 3 years says he wants the JEC to compensate him for the equipment he's had to replace.

Allan Lally claims the company failed to identify the problems with his electrical system, and that's resulted in him spending thousands of pounds on new appliances.

The JEC say they haven't been negligent and as soon as they knew about the issue, they fixed it.

In December 2007 they had their first fire at the house after several appliances overloaded with electricity.

Then 4 weeks ago, there was another fire - this time because the heating system was being supplied with too much power.

Mr Lally says the JEC should've noticed the problems with the oversupply years ago.

And because of that - he wants compensation for the appliances he's had to replace. (from CTV)

Don't blame him, hope he wins...

Over supply?

His mains fuses would blow before any over supply, the fuses only the electric company would be able to touch on the cable head on his property, after the meter is supplied the electric goes through his consumer unit and his consumer fuses, those would pop if the others hadnt, or his trip would go.

The only way the electric company could be at fault is if the neutral in the service cable joint is faulty (although that would be easy to indentify and the problem shouldnt have lasted as long as it has), which is probably the case, if not that then his dodgy wiring is no One elses responsibility but his own.

I think they mean 'over voltage' which could cause appliances to blow.
