Yacht rescue after engine fire off Guernsey ..
Four people were rescued after abandoning their yacht when the engine caught fire a short distance outside St Peter Port harbour entrance.
Guernsey's lifeboat was called out to deal with the incident in the Little Russell on Monday morning.
The Sark Venture, which had just left port, picked up the people off the Anita Bomba from a life raft.
The lifeboat took the yacht under tow and brought it alongside in St Peter Port Harbour a short time later.
'Quick reaction'
Captain Peter Gill, the harbour master and lifeboat launching officer, said: "They had an engine room fire and the skipper went down to put the fire out, he got a little bit of smoke inhalation, when he left it the fire reignited so they decided the safest thing to do was to leave the yacht and get in the raft."
He said the crew had been fairly lucky and it was "a job well done".
The French yacht's skipper Martin Dumont, who was treated for smoke inhalation at the harbour, said: "Because the boat is made of plastic we have to be very quick and no time to be sure of what will happen we have to leave as soon as possible."
He said the work of the lifeboat Spirit of Guernsey and Sark Venture had been "great" in their quick reaction.
