Call for change in child penal system

Post by GD on Thu 15 May 2008, 2:42 pm

RADICAL changes are needed in Jersey’s child penal system, says a UK review team which has just spent four days in the Island at the request of Senator Stuart Syvret in one of his last acts as Health Minister.

The Howard League for Penal Reform is an independent charity which offers advice on prison reform. It was asked to look at the policy and procedures for children in the penal system in the Island.
It stressed that the visit was nothing to do with Haut de la Garenne but it had been concerned about Jersey when it heard about the ‘grand prix’ system that had been in place at Greenfields Centre and which has since been phased out. (from thisisjersey)

Needs something doing and quickly!
