Offenders to pay their court costs?
The Attorney General, Tim Le Cocq
PEOPLE convicted of offences in the Magistrate’s Court could have to pay the costs of being charged and the court process.
The Public Accounts Committee wants to lessen the burden on taxpayers and bill convicted criminals for the cost of prosecuting them.
The recommendation was made in the committee’s report on the 2008 States of Jersey Accounts, published this week.
The Attorney General, Tim Le Cocq, who is in charge of public prosecutions, has confirmed that the proposal was being researched. ‘This is something we are investigating at the moment,’ he said. (from JEP)
Sounds like a great idea to me...
