That was why i said on the spot fines!!!!
Our Local police are at the moment udnder staffed yet again.this is why there are so many crimes that go on
Gone are the days when the local bobby was resrected by the islanders
I have seen some very good police men/women in this island and i have also come across a few that are not nice folks at all.....
Gone is the day when a chat with your local bobby was a daily thing
too much time is spent with paperwork. this is the way things are all over the world with power controled folks who want to sue every one they meet for a few extra pounds
A long of these disputes out side night club or even crowds of hooligans would be better controled with the fire brigade giving them a soaking instead....a much cheaper way of dealing with them than shoving them into a police van and taking them off for the night
this save man power and heaps of paperwork along the way

Re: What is your views on the Police of Today
I have no problem with the police doing a speed check, I did not complain when I was booked as I knew I was speeding although not at the speed I was booked at,
Bobz2005 I assume you are in the force in the UK for my speeding offence in the UK I would have had 3 points on my licence, a piece of paper in the post and that would have been it.
Here 60mph in a 35 will probably mean 200-300 fine and 3 months off the road even for a first offence so you can see why we must have it done right and when its not it becomes a big problem.
My only complaint is an officer not doing his job by the code of practice he was trained to use only 4 months earlier and that he felt he could get away with telling lies in court.
My view of 95% of the Police is that they do a fine job but there are a few that need weeding out.

hi There Wayside..... yes i am in the force in the uk..but i am a guernseyman with a name like mine how could that be doubted huh ha ha... i have to agree with you about your whole situation and the officer who would blatently lie.. out of interest did you get off with the speeding fine ?
yes it does have to be done right i do agree with you there too... and to be honest i wish that there were instant bans for all speeding offences here in the uk also.... the roads nowadays are not like when i lived and drove my car on guernseys relatively quiet roads.. when i was there last year i thought it was a nightmare getting up the grange to the rohais at rush hour... and there has to be a way of taking some of the chaos off the roads..... instant bans is a good one for me..
there are good and bad in every job .. and the station that i work at is no different.... some are there for the glory some just to collect a wage but in my opinion them two balance each other out.. but yes there are a few that just want to look clever.... i dont know the answer either but i wish we could get rid of the dead wood that drags the force down.... its a tough job made tougher in my opinion..

I think the old bobby of the beat works much better than just seeing the police when they are needed
Perhaps if there was more of them the island would have less crime

..
The usual ban for 60mph is 3 Months off I got 6 weeks, which I consider a compromise, the way I see it was that had I been let off, everyone else who had been stopped by this PC could have had there cases looked at as he was not using the speed gun correctly which was established in the 2 day newton hearing, I had already pleaded guilty to speeding just not at the speed recorded so would have had 1 month off probably regardless.
At least I am pretty sure that now they are doing it properly, or one would hope so.
