SCHOOLS HOPE TO OPEN TOMORROW DEPENDING ON OVERNIGHT WEATHER
It's hoped schools in Guernsey will be back open tomorrow….
The Education Department says they're not yet planning to shut them
again but it does depend on how things go with the weather overnight.
If it gets worse, they'll review their decision in the morning and let
us know as soon as possible. St Anne's school in Alderney will also
announce if it's closing or not early tomorrow. The department says
they understand school closures can cause problems for parents who have
to work. But they say they have to think about pupil and staff safety
and they have to listen to the authorities when they warn us not to
travel on the roads.

Top tips for driving on snow and ice
COPING WITH SNOW AND ICE
Staying inside in this weather is very tempting, but unfortunately most of us have to venture out at some point. Driving can be hazardous so here are a few pointers that'll keep you and others safe on the road.
GO SLOW
There may not be any visible snow or ice on the road but black ice is a real problem in weather like this. Keep your speed down. Remember to brake on the straights and not on the bends especially on the country lanes. Brake , steer and accelerate as smoothly as possible.
KEEP YOUR DISTANCE
Treble the gap between you and the car in front.
STAY IN A HIGH GEAR
Staying in a high a gear as possible will help your tyres grip the road. Going uphill try and get up enough speed, stay in a high gear to avoid wheel spin. When going downhill try and stay in a low gear to avoid having to brake as the vehicle speeds up.
DON'T LET GO
If you do skid on the ice don't let go of the steering wheel and try not to brake. Try and steer into the skid which may seem alarming but will be better in the long run.
AND FINALLY...
Some of the most treacherous parts of your journey can be getting to your car from the house, here are a few handy tips for de-icing your path.
Dishwasher salt, sawdust, ash and surprisingly cat litter all work wonders.

Re: Snow warning alert!!
All buses were cancelled this morning in Jersey because of ice on the roads, and more snow has been forecast for late morning and the afternoon.
The Met Office also forecast a bitterly cold wind and some drifting of snow later today.
Yesterday evening, hundreds had difficulty getting home as heavy snow fell from late afternoon.
