Gas Prices are we getting ripped off?

Post by GD on Thu 04 Feb 2010, 8:54 am

Quoted earlier last month..

GAS prices will be increased by an average of five per cent this month.

Jersey Gas has announced that from Wednesday 20 January customers will be paying an extra 0.43p per unit or 2.99p per litre for domestic heating.
Managing director of Jersey Gas Paul Garlick blamed high fuel costs for the increases.
‘We were hoping that crude oil prices might fall back and we would not have to raise prices,’ he said. ‘But there were no signs of it abating and we had to pass it on to the customer.’

(Guernsey did the same)

But announced today..

British Gas has announced it is cutting standard household gas prices by an average of 7%, with immediate effect due to the continuing falling gas price...

So how come Gas customers in the Islands are having to pay more?

Seems like we are getting ripped off........

Our CI gas prices can never be compared to mainland prices as it's not natural gas but a manufactured product and far more dependent on oil prices.
NB £300-00 is high but is for the coldest winter quarter in 30yrs!

quote GD " seems like we are being ripped off "

nothing new is it ?

example..

i recently brought a bass amp and cabs from the uk..

total weight of amp and cabs = 80kg
total size of amp and cabs = 1600mm x 650mm x 600mm
cost to ship from uk to guernsey £60

mate sent a guitar to uk..

total weight of guitar = 10kg
total size of guitar = 1000mm x 300mm 100mm
cost to ship from guernsey to uk £76

like i said to him, it would have been cheaper to take it over on condor and got a day trip out of it... lol

electricity is better i pay that by direct debit at £30 per month and i'm on economy 24. i wanted economy 12 with the gas but if i go dd with them, (u have to if u want e12), i have to pay an additional standing charge,(higher than the electric with no discount for regular payment), I don't have this with regualr bills. I tried with dd once and worked out that over the year i had saved £80 on gas but was charged £112 in standing charges so was actualy £32 worse off!! (it seems they penalise regular dd paying customers and not ones like me that get a quarterly bill that may not be paid straight away.
