Usually superb - go there a lot (my Ozzie hubby loves the Lamb shanks) went with friends again!!! on Wednesday (their treat) and nobody had a warm meal.......I asked for the Field Mushrooms on Toasted Garlic Bread with a Poached Egg on top - came out as those tasteless button mushrooms- but worse still the waiter argued with me and said they were field mushrooms, as ordered!!! but took them away and when they were returned the reason became clear - they only had one 'field type' left and tried to make it look like a meal (usually there are 3) ......so why spoil a reputation - why not say sorry they are off of the menu???? But we will go back as that was a one off for them!!!!

Well.....we had a lovely meal here this evening......first it was a little loud as we were seated by a childrens party....once they left it was fine.....Hubby had fish and chips and mushy peas...which looked boootiful and he said tasted lovely...........
I chose Thai Green Curry...which was sooo tasty ...Washed down by 3 large glasses of white wine.....Wink

Now we don't normally have a dessert... but seeing as it was pancake day and they had them on the menu ......we tried......and wow...they were delish..........i had pancakes and stawberries and hubby had pancake and maple syrup with banana....

Apart from a young lad bringing me RED wine each time i ordered WHITE wine the meal and service was very good and i will go back again......:)

Had a quick lunch with my family at the Oak today, just went for a filled sandwich, bread was really fresh and tasty, filling was adequate, but the best part was the bowl of spicy potato wedges that accompanied the sarnie!

Overall, pleasantly busy without queues waiting for a table, shown to our table with table service for drinks & order, table clean and not sticky like some places!, not too long a wait for the food, very good value, we were all happy and would go back again.

I'm jealous!!!! We use the Oak Bar as one of our main eateries....take friends there as well....We went with friends in the middle of last month and ordered our usual - mine, surprise, surprise was Field Mushrooms on garlic toast topped with a poached egg!!! Usually delcious, but when it arrived it was button mushrooms, which have none of the field mushroom's flavour!!! I explained to the waiter and he told me that they were field mushrooms !!!! (don't you just hate that when you know something is not as it should be, but get told it is!!!!) but said he would take it back and see what the chef had to say!!!! cut a long story short after my friends and Razz had almost finished their meal - I finally got a chopped up field mushroom spread very thinly between the 2 slices of toast!!! I said nothing as the friends were treating us!!!! On the 2nd we went again, and I took a chance on that having been a 'one off' and ordered the same.....this time it was trumpet mushrooms which had not been trimmed and I could not get my fork in to them served on 'cindered' toast....so disappointing!!! I told the waiter, who was extremely apologetic (not his fault poor lad) and he said they had 'trouble' in the kitchen!!! He didn't charge me and I must say I was really pleased I had ordered those 'spicy wedges'.......kept me going!!! Yesterday I wrote to Callum Le Noury explaining how disappointed I was (and how very disappointed I would be to have to find another eatery) and I am awaiting a reply.....so watch this space!!!!!

Calum phoned me this evening and invited Razz and I for a meal- so that he can negate the two bad ones I've had - he agreed that the last one I had was less than good (the duty chef had told him he'd cocked up) - so looking forward to it when he gets back from his his holiday on the 1st April!!!!
