Claims Guernsey's tourism industry is not being marketed correctly

after two attractions said they were to close are being disputed.

The Strawberry Farm and Moulin Huet Potteries are closing, blaming dwindling visitor numbers.

St Peter Port Deputy John Gollop said that despite recovery signs in

parts of the market, including cruise liners and new hotels, the

industry was sagging.

against rising fuel costs, Condor and HD Ferries have confirmed.

Both operators have reduced their schedules in an effort to stave off the increasing cost of running their vessels.

An independent survey has found 40% of people questioned found Guernsey's States-owned airline Aurigny offers good or very good value for money.

According to Island Analysis 14% thought Flybe offered the same service.

The survey, which has been commissioned by Aurigny for the past six years, looked at the opinions of the airline as well as Blue Islands and Flybe.

The survey, carried out in May, also looked at price, punctuality, in-flight service and check-in services.

Sorry for cross posting this from the "isthisjersey" comments on my wordy incinerator article but it is a very important point. It's been suggested before, amongst those of us who are campaigning for TTS to see sense, but not much in public.

I would like to state for the record that a modern incinerator would not lead to atmospheric pollution problems. What would come out of the stack would indeed be very clean, and so would the stack gases of any of the other technologies but ...

A member of my staff was seriously assaulted on my terrace this afternoon. (Thursday 3rd July) The assault took place at approximately 13.30pm today by 2 men described as in their late 40's stocky, one wearing a brown short sleeve shirt kaki shorts,the other wearing a blue short sleeve shirt and blue shorts. AROUND one in every five States homes fails to meet the UK decent homes standards, it has been revealed.

Figures released this week show that 16 per cent � 712 � of the 4,452 States dwellings do not meet the most basic standards with which all UK council homes must comply by 2010.

These standards require that they are fit for habitation, are in a reasonable state of repair, have reasonably modern facilities and have central heating with temperature controls.

Milk deliveries under threat

A Guernsey Deputy has hit out at the Commerce and Employment Department in an open letter on milk retailing.

For nearly three years the Department has been trying to reform the way milk is sold in the island.

Last spring the States instructed the department to issue licences to milk retailers following an amendment by Deputies Mary Lowe and Dave Jones.

Now Deputy Jones says milk retailers' livelihoods are threatened by the delay in giving out the licences.

He's calling on the department ...
