Light bulb recycling introduced in Guernsey
Efforts to increase Guernsey's recycling rate have taken another step forward with the recycling of fluorescent and low-energy light bulbs. Previously only some of the bulbs, which contain hazardous chemicals such as mercury, have gone into landfill with the rest being stockpiled. Recycling officer Tina Norman-Ross said the new arrangements would be especially useful for businesses. She said the lamps would be shipped to the UK for recovery and recycling. Ms Norman-Ross said: "It's mainly aimed at the commercial sector because we have a lot of businesses here that are mainly lit by fluorescent lamps." The States has an aim of a 50% recycling rate for the island (from BBC) | |
