Lack of Nursery Places

Post by GD on Tue Apr 29, 2008 2:29 pm

Half of children eligible for a free nursery place can't get one.

A Scrutiny panel says it's because there's been a lack of communication between the Education Minister and the States.

It says the situation's completely unacceptable and has been going on for several years.

In the academic year in which a child turns four - they're entitled to a free nursery place during term time.

But there aren't enough state places - so politicians need to pay private nurseries to take the children instead.

Chairperson Deputy Deirdre Mezbourian says Senator Mike Vibert needs to sort out the problem. (Channel 103)
