We tried to get involved but after being ignored for a over a month by the organiser we are now doing our own Guernsey Foodfest

we will be dong it twice a year and some that are in the tennerfest this time will be joining us for the next one, The Venture Inn, will be adding there menu by Monday and a couple of others may be added soon.

Is it the Right Name to use?

How many menu's do you see for a tenner?

In the UK "Tennerfest" would be considered as a breach of the Trades Description Act

What are you views?

Where we stayed in Weymouth you can get two big meals for £9.00 , Ok it was a promotion but come to think of it so is the £10.00 , £12.50 £15.00 , £20.00 erfest LOL.

And i have also noticed in some establishments they give you a lot less than you had before the offer.

It is a shame that menus have had to rise in price but to expect 3 courses for £10 you are either going to get low quality or not much as prices have risen so much especially in the past year.

I think the name has been outdated for a while now although the concept is still good.

Most of the offers at Tennerfest are going for anything but ten pounds.

The tennerfest menus are set at £10, £12.50, £15 and £17.50. It's the Channel Islands' most successful food promotion, but in its 11th year the prices are getting further and further away from "a tenner".

There are 181 restaurants taking part in this year's tennerfest across the Channel Islands. Less than a third of them are offering any form of a ten pound menu and only 25 are serving up three courses for a tenner.

Ged Kelly, Tennerfest Promoter, told Channel Online: "When it started it was a tenner and it's in October, which is the tenth month. We actually thought about calling it Octoberfest originally but that's been trademarked and as far as we're concerned, tennerfest is a brand name that's synonymous with extra value."

The original purpose of tennerfest was two fold, the cheaper menus would entice Islanders to try places they wouldn't normally go to and this would also boost business outside of season. Top end restaurants say the charging £17.50 is necessary.

Natalie Duffy, The Salty Dog, told Channel Online: "It wouldn't do as well to compromise on the quality of our food or the quantity of food. So we need to keep the prices in tune with what it's actually costing us. Electricity's gone up, fuel costs, food costs etc. It's a tough old game to put food on a plate for £17.50."

But those who do offer ten pound deals disagree. Gavin Farmer from The Goose on the Green, told Channel Online: "The promotion is a tenner-fest, a meal for ten pounds. So if you can't provide a meal for ten pounds then maybe you shouldn't be taking part in the promotion." (from CIonline)
