Police say man could have been victim of 'hit job'Police think a man who was found slumped on a step in Alderney with a fractured skull could have been the victim of a 'hit job'.

An 18-year-old was found by a police officer at the bottom of Victoria Street, in the Roquettes area of St Anne, at 2am on Wednesday morning.

He was taken to the island's Mignot Memorial Hospital for initial treatment before being airlifted to Guernsey.

Sgt Jeff Hill said: "A police constable found the man holding his head on a step in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

"All we know at the moment is that the man was at the Mai Thai restaurant until about 1am but it looks like he could have been the victim of a hit job.

"We would welcome any information from members of the public."

The man, who recently moved to Alderney from the UK, returned from Guernsey on Thursday. As well as a fractured skull, he has also suffered a partial loss of vision.

Anyone with information should call Alderney police 01481 822731 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
