Pest control: States turn to ferrets!

Post by GD on Tue 18 Mar 2008, 8:57 pm

Alderney has recruited three new pest control operatives as an alternative to using poison.... but they won't be receiving a salary.

The States has acquired three ferrets who'll help clear rabbits from the cemetery in Longis Road.

Hunting has recently been suspended with the arrival of the rabbit breeding season, and burrowing has become a real problem.

The ferrets, two boys and a girl, named Kerry, Penny and Maurice, joined the island's pest control team last autumn and have been trained, with the use of drainpipes in hutches at Sharpe's Farm., to enter burrows and chase rabbits into catch nets.

Their introduction follows a ban on the use of poison and so far they've proved effective. Now thats whay I call Keeping Green..
The One and Only....
