Alderney Silver Stamp produced for Anniversary

Post by GD on Tue 17 Jun 2008, 10:02 pm

Stamp collecters from across the world will soon be able to get their hands on a very special piece from Alderney.

The first ever silver stamp replica produced in Britain features the Alderney Crest.

Designed by Andrew Fothergill, the solid silver print has been created to celebrate 25 years of Alderney Stamps.

The anniversary pieces are solid silver, and are the first of their kind to be produced in Britain. The wafer thin rectangles of silver feature Alderney's unique crest - the lion and sprig of broom. The print is distinguished with the lion treated with spot varnish and the Queen's head, the value and the word Alderney all printed in silver.

Also commemorating the anniversary are a new set of six stamps ranging in value from 34p to 74p and they feature a number of the Island's spectacular views. These include sights from the old harbour, the golf course, the breakwater, Fort Clonque Causeway and Hanging rock. The solid silver replica is available in a limited edition souvenir folder which includes the five pound stamp and a set of the landmark prints.
