Underwater cable could mean cheaper electricity for Alderney

Post by GD on Thu 22 May 2008, 7:53 pm

An Alderney politician's urging the island's States to strike a deal with
Alderney Renewable Sea Power to ensure islanders get cheap electricity.

Currently Alderney residents are paying twice as much for electricity as
people in Guernsey.

That could all change however after ARE set up their tidal turbines in
Alderney waters.

Colin Williams is the Chairman of Alderney's Finance Advisory Group.

At last nights States Meeting he told the house any arrangement made with ARE
should include a clause to allow the island access to their submarine
electricity cable, in order to import power from the European grid.
The One and Only....
